UT Federal Credit Union Board of Directors

A nine-member Board of Directors is elected from the membership to act as the governing body. The Board then appoints a five-member Supervisory Committee that is charged with performing audits of the credit union’s practices. All of these members are volunteers who are dedicated to maintaining the safety and soundness of UT Federal Credit Union.

Jim Brace - UT Federal Credit Union Chair

Dr. James Brace, Chair

Dr. Brace was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, where he earned both a B.S degree (1967) and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (1971). Following graduation, Dr. Brace moved to Boston where he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and neurology at the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital. From 1974-1978 he taught veterinary medicine at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine until moving to Knoxville in December of 1978 to assume a teaching position at UTK’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2013, Dr. Brace retired from the University of Tennessee where he was the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs and Professor of Internal Medicine at the College.  Dr. Brace has been a UTFCU member since 1986. He served on the Supervisory Committee from 1990 – 2003, and was Chair for two years. He has served on the Board of Directors since 2003 and has served as Chair since 2011. Dr. Brace looks forward to continuing to help UTFCU grow and provide the financial services expected by all of its many members.

Mike McNeil, Vice Chair

Michael McNeil retired from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2010, after working for 40 years in the information technology area.  After retirement, Mr. McNeil has occasionally worked part-time on projects for the University of Tennessee Center for Business and Economic Research as well as lecture for the Accounting and Information Management department of the University of Tennessee.  Mr. McNeil served on the Supervisory Committee from 2005 until 2008 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2008. He received his B.S. from UT Knoxville and has been a member of the credit union since 1989.

Dr. Katie High, Secretary

Dr. High is the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success at the University of Tennessee System. Previously she served as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UT Martin. Her undergraduate studies were completed with an A.B. from Miami University, an M.A.T. also from Miami University, and EdD from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. High was elected to the UTFCU board for her first 3-year term in 2011. She has been a credit union member since 1983.

James Hodge, Treasurer

James Hodge has been a senior auditor with Audit and Consulting Services at the University of Tennessee since 1999, with previous employment at the Tennessee Department of Revenue, East Tennessee State University, and North Carolina A&T State University. Mr. Hodge holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from East Tennessee State University.  He is a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Government Financial Manager and has served on various local service community boards and university committees. Mr. Hodge has been a UT Federal Credit Union member since 1999 and has served as a Board member since 2007.

Stephen (Steve) Catlett

Steve Catlett is Associate Vice Chancellor of Development at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and serves on the leadership team in the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs. Mr. Catlett is a graduate of The University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Mr. Catlett has been very involved in his professional organization, CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education), serving on the District III Conference Planning Committee and speaking at many conferences around the country. He has been involved in community activities such as the Knoxville Business Association, United Way, Wesley House, as well as the Knoxville Volunteer Rotary Club. Mr. Catlett has been a member since 1992. He was appointed to the board in 2016.

Anita Lane, Security Officer

Anita Lane is the Area General Manager for Shailesh Patel hotels and is responsible for the daily operations and sales for Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Knoxville, Country Inn & Suites Cedar Bluff and Country Inn & Suites Clinton. She attended school at Pellissippi State and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Lane serves as a Board member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Boys & Girls Club of Tennessee and various other boards and committees in our community. She was appointed to the UTFCU Board of Directors in 2013.  In October, 2015, Lane attended the Credit Union National Association’s Volunteer Certification School and received the Certified Credit Union Volunteer designation. Mrs. Lane has been a member since 2013.

Dr. Charles T. Deal

Charley Deal is the Executive Director, Office of Research, Outreach and Economic Development, and the Executive Director of the WestStar Leadership Program at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Dr. Deal guides the alumni and annual giving operations and has been employed at the university since 1992. He took on the responsibilities of alumni relations on January 1, 2004. Prior to coming to alumni relations, he was the Assistant Director of Athletics. He has also worked in the Office of Development and in the Office of Housing. He is a 1992 and 1996 graduate from UT Martin and received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in 2017. Dr. Deal was named to the Supervisory Committee in 2008 and served a one year term before being elected to the Board of Directors in 2009.

Dylan Jones

Dylan Jones serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Communications Officer for Scripps Networks Interactive. In this role, he is responsible for the development and supervision of strategic, integrated communications programs for Scripps Networks Interactive including reputation management, media relations, investor relations, social responsibility, employee communications, government relations, speakers’ bureau, event marketing and marketing and creative services. Mr. Jones previously held a series of senior communications roles in global organizations including major music company EMI, media businesses MTV, VH1 and Music Choice Europe, as well as setting up his own consultancy. Prior to moving into communications, he was a show business journalist at World Entertainment News Network in London. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Cambridge, UK. Mr. Jones was elected to the UTFCU Board of Directors in 2017.

Dr. Robert Nobles

Robert Nobles serves as the associate vice chancellor for research at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and has a faculty appointment in the Department of Public Health within the College of Education, Health, & Human Sciences. Dr. Nobles joined UT in 2013 with the intent of enhancing the research infrastructure to support faculty and students in their scholarly pursuit of research answers. Dr. Nobles also serves as the co-investigator on a 5-year $4.9 million NIH award for the Program for Excellence & Equity in Research (PEER); and chairs the UT institutional compliance committee, campus safety committee, and Commission for Blacks. Dr. Nobles was elected to the UTFCU board in 2017.
