UT Federal Credit Union (UTFCU) was founded on May 15, 1969, by a small group of University of Tennessee employees who shared a simple goal — to create a safe, trustworthy place for their colleagues to save, borrow, and grow together. Built on the cooperative philosophy of people helping people, UTFCU began as a financial home for the UT community and has grown into a trusted partner for individuals and families across East Tennessee and beyond.
Over the years, we’ve evolved alongside our members. What started with just 300 members and two part-time employees has grown into a full-service financial institution with more than 100 dedicated team members, over 25,000 members strong, and over $500 million in assets. Our field of membership has expanded from serving University of Tennessee employees to a full community charter—meaning anyone can join and experience the UTFCU difference.
While technology, products, and locations have advanced, our purpose remains the same: to make a positive difference in the lives of our members and the communities we serve. More than 50 years later, UTFCU continues to embody the spirit of cooperation and care that started it all—people helping people.
